Belgrave School is proud to celebrate a standout moment in the academic calendar, as Year 11 learners successfully planned and delivered a Sports Festival for 56 Year 5 pupils from a nearby primary school. The event formed part of their work towards the Sports Leader qualification, and was a resounding success for all involved.
Each learner took ownership of a specific activity, planning and practising to ensure their stations were fun, inclusive, and age-appropriate. On the day, the primary pupils rotated between stations, where Belgrave’s Year 11 learners confidently led the sessions — explaining rules, demonstrating skills, and taking on roles such as referee, timekeeper, and scorekeeper.
The event provided an excellent opportunity for learners to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and communication skills in a real-world setting. Their ability to engage and guide younger pupils was a clear reflection of their development and the strong values embedded throughout the school community.
The visiting pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with smiles, energy, and enthusiasm evident throughout the day. The Sports Festival not only supported the Year 11 learners in achieving a key qualification but also fostered positive community links and created a valuable learning experience for all participants.
Dionne Seagrove, Principal at Belgrave School, said:
“This was a truly proud moment for the school. The confidence, maturity and commitment shown by our Year 11 learners was exceptional. They created a welcoming, structured, and enjoyable event for the younger children, and showed exactly what young people can achieve when given the opportunity to lead.”
The Sports Festival stands as a memorable highlight of the school year and a shining example of the inclusive, hands-on learning opportunities that Belgrave School offers to support both academic and personal growth.
