The School Day
The school opens at 8:50am and our day begins with transitions from transport and breakfast club. Structured lessons begin at 9.00am and end at 3.10pm.
We have 4, 45 minute and 2 60 minute lessons each day and these include, maths, English, ICT, science, cookery, geography, PSHE, art, PE and enrichment. These lessons are taught on rotation in small groups, ranging from 8 to 12 children in a class. Our skilled staff, support learners throughout the school day.
In Key Stage 4, the school day consists of six lessons per day, encompassing a balanced curriculum. Learners engage in five weekly lessons each of Mathematics, English and Science, ensuring a strong foundation in these core subjects.
Learners can also access therapeutic sessions with a trained Trauma Informed Practitioner, and work with Speech and Language Therapists. Pastoral interventions are woven into the school day through whole class, small group work and one-to-one sessions depending on the individual needs of the child.
Each learner at our school has an individualised one-page profile which is tailored to their specific needs.
This profile serves as a comprehensive resource for our staff, offering vital information on how to support each leaner effectively. It plays a crucial role in recognising and responding to triggers, ensuring a proactive approach to maintaining the safety and well-being of our students.
Snack and lunch times are structured and supervised with a focus on healthy eating and independence. Learners are encouraged to join lunchtime clubs that offer extra-curricular learning and an opportunity to socialise with other year groups. Break times are seen as important learning moments to develop social and other skills.
Food at Belgrave School
We provide breakfast, a two-course lunch and snacks which are prepared fresh on the premises. Our menus operate on a 3-weekly rolling basis to ensure not only a nutritionally balanced diet but a wider variety of food for our learners.
Uniform
Learners at our school wear dark trousers or skirts, with a light blue polo shirt, and dark shoes. Trainers are permitted to ensure children’s comfort. We ask for learners to be dressed appropriately for activity on the days they have PE which can include a school PE t-shirt and hoodie.
We provide a set amount of uniform for all our learners and parent/carers are able to purchase more if required.
However, we are very mindful of the varying sensory needs of each of our learners and therefore, take a relaxed approach to uniform.
